What’s In Your Dash?
If you examine any headstone, you will always find the date that the person was born as well as the date they died. In between those two dates there is a “dash.” That dash represents everything that person did, said, accomplished, and experienced in their lifetime.
If you were to die this week would you be happy with what your friends, family, and co-workers would have to say about you and your life? Would you be totally satisfied with how you lived your life and the things that you had accomplished?
The sad fact is that the graveyard is full of unrealized dreams because many people failed to realize just how short life really is and that tomorrow is promised to no one. The bible in James 14:4 states: “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” In other words, life is short.
I want to challenge you to take a few moments to really ponder what words you would want to be read about you for your eulogy. What type of person were you? What great things did you accomplish for yourself? What great things did you do to enrich other’s lives? Were you an author? Were you a successful business person? Focus on all of the things you want to be said about you.
Once you have this written out, then your most logical step will be to begin immediately living the life that you just wrote about. Place it somewhere where you will always be able to see it and read it. If you can do this, I can promise you that eventually those words on that paper will soon become a part of you. Remember, if you are still breathing, then it’s not too late to change what’s in your dash!
Wishing you success!
